Bankless, which claims to have 150,000 subscribers to its Ethereum-focused newsletter and podcast, as well as its YouTube channel, was banned from the social media platform without warning or justification.
- The channel, which boasted more than 10,000 hours of content and featured such notables as Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, announced in a tweet that its account had been deleted.
- When you try to click on the channel, you get a "This page is unavailable" message.
- Bankless is not alone. Other crypto accounts on Education Web 3 such as Gabriel Haines.eth and Optimism Collective were also shut down.
- Officials from YouTube could not immediately be reached for comment; commenters on Bankless' Twitter thread made comments like "Wow, guys, finally I understand why we need web3," which would prevent an organization from closing a channel through decentralization.
- The removal of the Bankless channel may not be permanent, nor is it a sign that YouTube finds the channel's content objectionable. The social media giant has closed other channels in the past without explanation, only to reinstate them at a later date, also without explanation.
