Coinbase (COIN) has been named to the Fortune 500, a ranking of the largest companies in the U.S. by revenue, making it the first cryptocurrency company to make the list.
- The Nasdaq-listed crypto exchange generated more than $7.8 billion in revenue in fiscal 2021, ranking 437th on the 2022 list released Monday.
- After its initial listing on Nasdaq in April 2021, Coinbase joined the Fortune 500 at the first opportunity.
- The exchange was highlighted by Fortune Editor-in-Chief Alyson Shontell as one of "several pandemic winners" that "thrived under COVID's crazy circumstances" and flourished thereafter.
- Retail giant Walmart tops the rankings for the tenth consecutive year with sales of about $573 billion, followed by Amazon and Apple with figures of nearly $470 billion and $365 billion, respectively.
- The Fortune 500 represent two-thirds of U.S. GDP with total sales of $16.1 trillion.
