Web 3 education platform promotes "Earn while you learn" to executives

Metacademy.xyz's mix of crypto incentives and education already has 2,000 users, founder Shelly Palmer told CoinDesk.

The latest Web 3 education platform promises executives who join it to "make money while you learn."

Metacademy was founded by Shelly Palmer, a consultant known in crypto circles as the author of a best-selling book on crypto technology and decentralized finance 2021, and is now bringing that written work online and hands-on with an educational platform where users can "engage to earn" modules that give them the knowledge they need.

Metacademy isn't alone in offering educational content for crypto newbies. From stablecoin issuers like Circle to government institutions like the U.S. Treasury Department, there's a rush to educate investors about cryptocurrencies and their risks. Some companies like Coinbase are even rewarding users with cryptocurrencies for learning about their modules.

Metacademy, however, focuses on educating from the top down by targeting executives.

Metacademy's goal is to provide free educational resources for companies that want to educate their employees about buying cryptocurrencies, minting NFTs and decentralized finance, according to a press release.

"I want all of my customers to be able to put their executives through [Metacademy] and give everyone the opportunity to understand what a customer journey might look like if they were doing an Engage to Earn project," co-founder Shelly Palmer said in a call with CoinDesk.

Users who signed up for the beta phase complete lessons on various Web 3 topics and can practice their knowledge in Metacademy's DeFi Sandbox, where they can spend simulated tokens without any on-chain risk.

Palmer said users who complete the site's 14 modules will soon be able to mint their program certification as an NFT, giving them VIP access to Metacademy events and experiences.

"Ultimately, we're really going to drive the engage-to-earn principle by giving things real value," Palmer said.

Metacademy.xyz launched its public beta Sunday morning, and by Monday, 2,000 users had registered, Palmer said.
