In an interview with Small Caps, Professional Trader and analyst Gareth Soloway gave his take on what he sees as the ‘aftermath’ of the FTX collapse. In Gareth’s view, the primary lesson that crypto can take away from the debacle of FTX is that some form of regulation must take place. Though many people would prefer that crypto remains decentralized and for government to stay out, it is becoming increasingly harder to argue those who are in favor of regulation after FTX’s eye-opening bankruptcy proceedings are showing the appalling handling of customer funds without basically any accounting system. Gareth believes that celebrities such as Tom Brady, Kevin O’Leary, and Steph Curry, who were all got burned, both monetarily and reputation wise because of FTX along with major institutions, will not touch crypto until regulation is in place. Gareth stated that without the endorsement of big money institutions coming into the space, it’s not out of the question that Bitcoin can go to zero. The main argument for those opposed to government intervention is that, historically, once the government puts regulation into place, they usually overstep boundaries and never let up. Gareth is aware of the concerns but would rather over-regulation than under-regulation, which has caused billions to be lost in this past year alone, due to the collapse of Luna, Celcius, Three Arrows Capital, and now FTX. But with all that being said, Gareth still sees 2023 as a shaky year for crypto but believes crypto will rise to heights after all the dust settles and regulation is in place.
