The man of few words and deleted tweets is once again making headlines with his predictions. Michael Burry, the famed ‘Big Short’ Investor who made a fortune making big bets shorting the 2008 financial crisis, took to Twitter to warn his 1.2 Million followers that a recession is coming, by any standard. Burry tweeted out;
Inflation peaked. But it is not the last peak of this cycle. We are likely to see CPI lower, possibly negative in 2H 2023, and the US in recession by any definition. Fed will cut and government will stimulate. And we will have another inflation spike. It's not hard.

This has been the long-standing definition of a recession but back in mid-2022, the White House took heat on social media for attempting to change the definition of a recession or at least deny the definition after the Commerce Department's Bureau of Economic Analysis reported gross domestic product of the United States — the broad measure of goods and services produced in the country — shrank at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 0.9% in the April through June period, which followed a 1.6% decline in the year's first quarter. But regardless of the semantics or delayed response, Burr believes no matter how you slice it, we are heading into a recession in 2022.
The money printer seems to be off and inflation looks as if it peaked, which Burry referred to and what Cathie Wood has been saying for quite some time. Bitcoin has been stagnant for months, the high prices in real estate are dropping nationwide, and unemployment has stayed unchanged since November of 2022, according to the U.S. BUREAU OF LABOR STATISTICS…although big tech firms are making headlines with massive layoffs. The difference, however, between what Cathie is predicting and Burry, is that Burry believes the brrrr printer will come back on and inflation will peak again.
