At the time of writing, Bitcoin is trading for $19,475.00, up 0.17% in the past 24 hours. Bitcoin has been trading sideways for months now, as it has been trading between predominantlyv$18,500 and $22,500 since June… with a few spikes above $22,500. This sideways action is in contrast with the surging US dollar. The long-standing belief was that Bitcoin was a hedge against inflation against the dollar but the data is showing otherwise. In an AMA, macro analyst Raoul Pal explained why everyone has the narrative about Bitcoin wrong. Pal explains that it is not a hedge against the dollar but rather, a debasement of currency. Pal likened Bitcoin to gold, which he felt many people also got confused about. Raoul explained that when we see things like the M2 growth, liquidity, central bank’s balance sheets rising, we will see the price of Bitcoin skyrocket. But we aren’t seeing that, we are seeing the opposite, which is why Bitcoin is trading sideways and the dollar is surging.
