CBDC’s are coming. While the progression of central bank digital currencies has been relatively slow, the start of 2023 has seen about a dozen CBDCs launched, according to a tracker from the Atlantic Council, which adds 17 are in pilot and 72 are in research and development. Eighty percent of central banks are considering a CBDC or have already launched one, according to PwC. And the White House, albeit without much clarity, mentioned their plan for a CBDC as a footnote in their first ever “crypto framework”, released in September of 2022. All the Central Banks are claiming the same reasons for their implementation of CBDCs; improving cross-border payments, mitigating financial crimes, and improving financial inclusion. While that sounds good on paper, many are skeptical about the real reason for CBDCs, which may be a total reset of the system that has been a train wreck due to high inflation, fiscal irresponsibility, and a system that works for the few, instead of the many. Some are speculating that the ultimate goal of CBDCs is to provide a surveillance state on the population and contrary to their said motivation, CBDCs can easily exclude someone from the system if they do not abide by arbitrary rules. Investor Doug Casey gave a dire warning about what’s coming for CBDCs and in his opinion, there’s nothing good about it. In an interview with Stansberry Research, Casey explained that CBDCs are the last hope for a systematic failing at the failing central banks and that this catastrophe has been decades in the making.
