The cryptocurrency markets have shown extreme volatility within the past year, with high-profile projects such as Terra Luna and Celsius, going to zero. While the fall of a project isn’t anything new in the crypto space, it seems to be magnified now that crypto has hit the mainstream. Many enthusiasts, pundits, analysts, and investors are calling for more regulation with the hope that major investors such as insurance companies and sovereign funds can allocate to the space with confidence. The Biden Administration recently released a report stating their findings in the crypto space and a quasi-plan for regulation moving forward. Buried deep into the report was an unclear vision for CBDCs, better known as Central Bank Digital Currencies. While many pundits and investors are clear that regulation will help the crypto space, most are not in favor of a CBDC, yet, many believe that all of the regulation that is planned to come into the crypto space is really just a step toward the ultimate goal, CBDCs. Governments are touting that a CBDC will ultimately allow for financial inclusion, a way for millions of unbanked global citizens to be able to participate in the financial system. Those who oppose the CBDC aren’t buying it and believe the CBDC is just another “big brother” tool to control the masses. Many nations such as Iran, Bahamas, China, Norway and Hong Kong, just to name a few, are currently implementing trials for a central bank digital currency. In an interview with Cheeky Crypto, outspoken Cardano founder, Charles Hoskinson, took the side of those opposed to CBDCs, as he condemned the idea of a central bank digital currency. Hoskinson sounded off by saying a CBDC should not even be considered a cryptocurrency. Hoskinson then went on to name all the evil that can easily be done behind the mask of a central bank digital currency, that is supposedly there to help the people.
